Maximise your unique Gifts and Talents

paint resizedDo you maximise your unique gifts, talents and key capabilities?

When I work with individuals and groups I am often asked why I decided to specialise in leadership and other aspects of personal development. When replying, I say that for many years I have been fascinated by the fact that each of us is unique. We have unique finger prints, eyes, ear lobes and DNA. The way we filter all the information we receive differs from one person to another. As Stephen Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, said: ‘We see the world not as it is, but as we are – or, as we have been conditioned to see it.’

More importantly, each one of us has a unique story to tell based on the knowledge and experience we have acquired.

I believe that there are some profound reasons why each one of us is unique. If we are to live our lives to the full we need to:

  • Unearth the treasures which are our unique gifts and talents and then think about who we wish to become. We might refer to this as our vocation or ‘calling’.
  • Bring these treasures into the world to the maximum extent possible. Martha Graham, one of the founders of modern dance refers to this as ‘keeping your channel open’.

Do you agree?

You are only on this planet once. So why not spend a day or so unearthing your unique talents, gifts and strengths, identifying the unique contribution that you could make to society and in your work? If you choose to burn yourself up, let it be the result of being and doing something really worthwhile, rather than just the result of being busy. You have the potential to become the difference that makes THE difference.

What would you like to share with us and others? We would love to hear from you
